Dearly Deers,
After I did a post where I was happily surprised about a pose brand I found,
I had sent the owner a NC, asking if they perhaps needed bloggers and if so, how I could apply.
They had seen my post and image and were happy to inform me that I was accepted as a blogger.
Yes, at times it is simply that easy !
Obviously I felt happy with this and thus far I have used the poses several times in my images.
Earlier this week, the designer had asked me if I could make an image for a certain pose and if they were allowed to use it for the marketplace vendor.
I was honored they asked me to do that for them as it shows they must like the images I make which is a great compliment for any stylist or blogger if you will.
So I had gotten the pose and went straight on with making an image in my “normal” style.
I had showed the result and they were pleased with that and so I sent it to them to use.
I was asked not to post it before the pose was set up for sale. Which I get so I did not post it till I had the green light.
After that was done, I logged off and went to sleep.
Now my offlines, go to my mail and as I check my phone like nearly constantly (yes addict, shoot me) but as I do that often, I noticed an offline in my box.
“They were happy with how the image came out but if I could post the direct link to the pose on Flickr”
Well I was to go to sleep so I was not gonna worry about this at that moment.
Another offline.
“If I could post the direct link to the pose on my Flickr, as I have a PRO account I could do this. To the specific pose.”
Sleep Emi… go sleeppppp
Another offline…
“Being a blogger too I know that its double duty to put a link a both places we all work so hard on our blogs but its easier for the customers to see the item direct from Flickr so what they want to buy they can just click”
Honestly I must say I felt a little pressured with three offlines that basically all state the same. But ok, I did not bother for that night as I wanted to sleep.
So the next day I logged on, and checked my blogpost. The ones I put here. It did have both the link the main store as it had the link to their marketplace, the exact link to that exact item.
Now as a background thing.. When I post my image to Flickr, I do this by posting the image.
At the title is ALWAYS the number of my post, has been so for the past ten years.
After this in the description part I add the link that leads you to here, the actual post.
I name add the designers that sponsored me and possibly the blog manager, if they asked me to do so
Next to this, I tag the sponsors in the actual tag part.
It also has some lyrics and the link to the video of those lyrics.
Here, in the actual post, I always name the item used and the designers brands where the item is from.
If the designer is a sponsor, I always add the link to the store of the designer so all can be found.
So continuing, I had re-read those offlines and as I always work through a certain concept in my Flickr I had decided to not add extra links.
If people wish to know where an item is from, they can simply click the link description and it gets them to here where they can find all info.
The reason for this? Simple. I may be a stylist. My thing is to style items and to shoot an image of that.
My “brand” or “work” or in my case “hobby” IS in fact my blog.
So it makes sense to me, to want people here to get bloghits to get my blog “out there” etc.
Then she pinged me when she got online.
Asking if I wanted to put direct link to the marketplace item on my Flickr.
So I explained to her I would not do so.
That my Flickr is set up in a certain format so it directs to my blog for details.
Also that I did not want my Flickr to become full with links as I do not want to become a marketing tool full with links.
For if I start doing that for Sponsor A it would be fair to do that to all my sponsors.
And when I do that for all my sponsors where does it end? Flickr Link, mainstore link, mplace link, direct item on mplace link, instagram link, fb link, personal fb links, stroe fb link, you name it it would not end.
This way, my Flickr will become messy and I simply do not wish this.
This designer did not agree with me and explained me how they want me to to only put direct links to their store and mplace item.
And as much as I understand this from her point of view, I mean yeah you wish to make sales, I get that.
I was a bit much disappointed she refused to be open to see it from my side.
Then she stated, the line “but really whats the point of having a blogger if they feel not to do right by the sponser?”
And then I thought, yeah I see your point. So I offered to step down as a blogger, for if this is what they ask of me, then it is every simple, then I am not the right person to blog for them anymore for I would not be willing to commit to that rule.
For the record, it was said in this conversation that this is how they want it however, this is not in ANY of my blog rule notes I have of them.
So I was actually feeling like I was being professional by stepping down, I do not mind rules, I love rules. And I do not expect them to be bent for me.
So stepping down to me, is then truly the “next best thing”.
This was seen as me giving attitude.
Then I got told that the way I linked it now was not promoting their work.
So I asked them that if this is so, then why did they accept me as a blogger to begin with?
As this is how I have worked for the past ten years and this is in fact the way they accepted me!
I told her I refuse to use my Flickr to become their free marketing tool.
She told me she refused to not have her poses properly promoted.
I thanked for the past trust in my work. She stated to not have any hard feelings.
I said I would not have those. She deleted me.
So after this all happened I wonder how people look upon this thing.
I mean I think a reallllly large number of the bloggers in sl, use a link to their blog.
I think a really big number of them, are not on a pro account so they are not even officially allowed to post links as they risk their account being removed.
Next to this, I payed to have the abilities I have with a PRO account for the larger space. I never payed to have a Pro account so I could humor my sponsors.
Also, again, this is the format I work with, have been working with and will keep working with.
If a sponsor has in their rules they want me to post all their links into MY Flickr, I will simply either not apply to that sponsorship or I will resign.
I do understand a sponsor wants you to use their item in the best way possible and with the sponsorship comes promoting the item.
I understand that this is how it works but I do not think any sponsor can tell me HOW to do what I do by altering the rules on the go.
I understand as a blogger you have duties towards your sponsor, commitments that need to be made.
And thus far, I always thought I was doing that correctly.
I believe a bloggers has “rights” too. We should be allowed to apply to rules and stick to them but rules should be a working guideline so both parties know what they get involved in.
Well this being all said, I am sorry they felt they could no longer work with me as one of their bloggers, however I do not regret sticking up for myself.
If this rule was known prior to this whole conversation I had I would not have applied for the simple fact I use MY Flickr account to MY best interest, not anyone else’s and as I am the one who made that account and uses it, I think its safe to say I am allowed to do so. If this is not how they want it, that is ok, but then the right person for their brand I am not.
I will still use their poses by the way, they are great, I thought so from when I first stumbled upon them and this fittie has not changed my opinion on this.
L’amour et lumière,
Emlies
